All right, another one. I used gray clay for this one and I like the way the texture looks. The sculpture itself, however, doesn’t look as I envisioned it. Originally, I had imagined a killer hornet attacking the girl, but I ran into two problems: one, if I made the creature too big as of standing on its own armature, some of the symbolism of the diorama would be lost; two, if it ended up being small, even standing on its own armature, it would look weird, I would have had to hide the wire somehow and I didn’t like the idea. So, in the end I decided to make it small enough to piggyback the bigger statue. Instead of a hornet, I made some hybrid of tarantula, dragonfly and frog.
So, an unwary explorer takes a bath in a lake near the place where the thumping egg has just hatched. The hungry creature leaps on her, catching the girl by surprise.
I’m satisfied with the girl, though. I achieved the facial expression I wanted, and I think the body is better proportioned this time. The egg, well, I just had over-medium eggs, so I saw the opportunity to improve the landscape… I sprayed some rain on them to make it more dramatic.
If you like it, leave a comment.
Cheers!
